Working on DL Through SEE-TEL

Since 2017, the founders of MODLAN (Drs. Lisa Dorner and Kim Song) have been leading a National Professional Development (NPD) across Missouri: Strengthening Equity and Effectiveness for Teachers of English Learners (SEE-TEL). SEE-TEL is a five-year, $2.6 million project funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of English Language Acquisition. The main goal is to enhance education for emerging bilinguals or students designated as “English Learners” in the state of Missouri. One way to do this is to build upon the multilingual, language skills that students and families bring into schools through collaborating with families and translanguaging pedagogies, as explained in this news story as well as this plenary speech at the 2018 Cambio de Colores conference. We’re working with four school districts, two of which have Dual Language programs: Bayless, Carthage, Kansas City, and Columbia.
